Journal Question for the week of February 7th:
Considering the topics of Uncertainty, Measurement, Probability and Statistics: use the internet to research the Heisenberg uncertainty principle. Next, briefly summarize a unique example (not already written by a classmate) of how you would use "unobtrusive" measures of assessment to determine the popularity of a genre of books in a library.

Journal question for the week beginning January 31st:

Every time you look at a Nutrition Label on the package of a food product, you are reading the results of a chemistry experiment. Pick a food item that you have recently consumed (that your classmates have not yet selected), research on the internet and then briefly explain in your own words what information you found on the Nutrition Label and how this information is the result of a chemistry experiment. Paste a link to the website that you found to be most helpful.

Journal question for the week beginning January 24th:

Use the internet to research information on insects that use a chemical reaction to give off energy in the form of heat or light in order to do something that you think is cool and makes the insect unique to others. After finding an insect that is interesting, briefly explain in your own words what exothermic reaction occurs and why the insect creates this reaction. Also, paste a link to your source. You must select an insect that your classmates have not yet selected.

After watching this video (about 7 minutes long), answer the following questions on the discussion tab for this week: How does the functional design of this recycling separation process tie in with what we have studied this year? What terms were used in the video that you didn’t know before? List and define three of these terms. What do you think causes the greatest difficulty in separating plastics from other recyclables? Why?

Journal question for the week begining December 6th:

After watching this video, reflect on what you have eaten the past day or two. Select an unfamiliar chemical compound from a label of a food item you have consumed and research it. Report on what you found: What surprized you? Why is it used? Explain why you feel it is or is not safe to consume this?
